Odds are you will never see me on TV, but you will see my work at some point.
People always ask what does a photojournalist do? Well my job sends me to all sorts of interesting and cool stories. In my five years with WAFF; I had covered everything from car wrecks, fires, drug busts, city council meetings, and my personal favorite, SEC Football games. Some notable highlights in my career so far: I was in Phil Campbell with Nick Lough after the tornadoes hit. We helped a lot of good people who needed aid after their town was destroyed. I will always remember that day. Nick and I also covered the Immigration Hearings in Atlanta, which not too many people can say they were there when history was being made. I also got to cover the Alabama/LSU game last year in Tuscaloosa. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of work. Unlike people in the stadium or at home who get to enjoy the game, I am busy trying to shoot the game and get the best video I can. I am also the guy who usually shoots and edits Crime Stoppers.
I enjoy my job! It isn't the typical nine to five job. Every day is a new story! A new Adventure! A new challenge! I believe in caring about every story I cover and put the my best effort into it. It is a personal philosophy of mine that if I the journalist does not care about the story, then why should anyone at home?
So who is this Mark Deal person? I am a proud uncle, Eagle Scout, and avid music/video game junkie. I love French fries and coke! I try to read a couple of books a year and am a firm believer that humor is the spice of life. I graduated from the University of South Alabama with a degree in Communications. When I was young, I wished I had super powers....and still do. A huge fan of the cheesy kung fu movies! I guess that is me in a nutshell!
