Lawrence County man killed in single car wreck

A Trinity man was killed in a single vehicle wreck Thursday night.

Police say it happened on County Road 329 six miles outside of Moulton at 6:50 p.m.

The driver, 49-year-old Kenneth Terry of Trinity, was killed. His passenger, 40-year-old Benny Patterson, was injured.

Neither of them were wearing a seat belt.

A little-known law could soon leave Huntsville roads with a little less team spirit.

License plate frames, like those showing off your favorite college football team or even advertising the dealership that sold you your car, are illegal in Alabama.

Huntsville Police Department Court Liaison Nathan Nickelson said the frames are an absolute violation of the law. If an officer sees you driving with a frame covering any part of your tag, you can be pulled over and issued a citation.

CDC: seat belt use up

Almost 6 out of 7 U.S. drivers surveyed report that they always wear a seat belt when driving or riding in a motor vehicle, according to a study released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Seat belt use has become the national norm in most states, though rates of self-reported seat belt use vary widely from state to state, with a high of 94 percent (Oregon) and a low of 59 percent (North Dakota).
