Court of appeals to hear arguments about student rights | News
LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- On Thursday, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments over tax provisions some say violate student rights in Lawrence County.
The complaint states because of the way property taxes are divided, poor students in predominantly black areas don't get the same opportunities in the classroom as other students.
The lawsuit is on behalf of African American school kids in Sumter County, plus black and white students in Lawrence County.
A federal judge ruled against this claim last year.
