Lawrence, Limestone, Morgan residents invited to chemical spill meeting

Lawrence, Limestone, Morgan residents invited to chemical spill meeting

Moulton, AL (WAFF) - In 2007, a Decatur company that uses perfluorochemicals (PFC's) announced that some of the chemicals had accidentally been discharged into the Decatur Utilities waste water system.

The Environmental Protection Agenda, Alabama Department of Public Health and Alabama Department of Environmental Management joined together to investigate the incident, and see if and how it affected people and land nearby. Over several months, the spoke to residents, took blood samples and tested land. Now, the results are in, and the agencies are ready to discuss the situation with the public.

Residents from Lawrence, Morgan and Limestone Counties are invited to attend a public forum about the spill on April 2nd at the Moulton Rec Center (13550 Court St.) at 6:00 p.m.

For more information about the public availability session, community members can call 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636).

The Stephens Millirons Law Firm in Huntsville is participating in the Liz Hurley Ribbon Run and they're excited to show support and raise awareness. The team has raised $680 to date and have recruited 33 participants.

They are running for a friend, a former employee of the firm who has battled chemotherapy and has had a double mastectomy this year and will be having surgery Wednesday to remove a tumor on her brain.

They will all have her in their hearts for the run. Also, a family member of an employee just found out that she was stage three with breast cancer.

Registration for the run is closed after the race reached its max 6,000 participants Friday. If you missed out on the registration, you can still support a runner or make a donation at this website.
