Lawrence Co. man accused of molesting 7 year old child

Moulton, AL (WAFF) - A two week long investigation by the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and DHR ends with the arrest of a 45 year old man.

Wendell Melson is accused of sexually molesting a 7 year old female. The abuse was reported on January 5th. Melson is already registered as a sex offender due to two previous convictions - one on 2nd degree sexual assault in 1987, and 1st degree sexual abuse charge from 1996.

Melson was charged with Sexual Abuse and Sexual Abuse of a Child Less than 12 Years Old for this alleged incident.

He's being held in the Lawrence County jail on $45,000 bond.
