A cold front to our west will bring a quick round of rain across the area today.  Some thunder and lightning are possible, however we are not expecting to see any severe weather.

Rain chances will pick up through the morning hours.  The steadiest and heaviest rain will push through between 10am and 2pm.

Wednesday is National Walk at Lunch Day

Bring or wear comfortable shoes and take a walk at lunch.

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Put on your walking shoes and push away from your desk at work. Wednesday is National Walk at Lunch Day.

It was created to improve personal health and decrease costs of healthcare for employers and employees.

You will need a jacket if you are going out after sunset this evening.  Temperatures will begin to fall into the upper 50s by 8pm.  Mostly clear tonight with temperatures falling to around 50 degrees for overnight lows.  Tuesday afternoon temperatures will return to the middle and upper 70s across the Tennessee Valley.

Slow Warm Up, Mid Week Rain

The next few days look dry and slightly below average. (Average highs for this time of year are the mid 70s, while the lows should be in the low 50s.)

Our next chance of rain comes Tuesday night into Wednesday.  At this point, the threat for severe weather looks pretty low with this system. 

High temperatures on Wednesday will be early in the day, in the upper 60s, before colder air pushes in throughout the afternoon and evening. 

Cops on Top kicks off for Special Olympics

The Decatur Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office kicked off the Cops on Top event with the Torch Run Friday morning.

MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- The biggest Special Olympics fundraiser in the Tennessee Valley is happening this weekend.

The Decatur Police Department and the Morgan County Sheriff's Office kicked off the Cops on Top event with the Torch Run Friday morning.

Athletes cheered on the officers as they made it to the Walmart on Beltline Road.

Law enforcement in several counties will be at Walmart Friday and Saturday collecting donations and selling T-shirts to help fund the Special Olympics.

"It's a life-changing program. It's all about letting these folks experience a lot of things that we take for granted. Just fellowship in one another, the competition, and we want to continue that," said Lt. Proncey Robertson with Decatur PD.

You can donate at any Walmart in Decatur, Athens, Moulton, and Cullman, and at the new Walmart in Madison.

Severe thunderstorms expected Thursday night

The primary severe weather threat will be damaging wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph.

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- A strong cold front will bring a line of strong to severe thunderstorms across north Alabama late Thursday evening and into the overnight hours. 

The primary severe weather threat will be damaging wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph.  An isolated tornado is also possible, mainly across NW Alabama as the storms arrive. 

The storms are expected to gradually weaken as they push across the area. 

Right now it appears that storms will affect NW Alabama and the Shoals between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m., the Huntsville Metro and I-65 corridor between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m., and NE  Alabama between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m.

2 arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

LAWRENCE COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- Drug task force agents arrested two people on drug charges
after a traffic stop April 2nd in the East Lawrence Community.

According to Sheriff Gene Mitchell, agents did a search
after noticing a strong odor coming from the vehicle and found meth and several
items used in the manufacturing of meth.

Kecia Burden and Tiffany Michelle Pittman were arrested and
charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia as
well as unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance.

Both Burden and Pittman are being held in the Lawrence County
Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
