Replacement appointed for Circuit Clerk

MOULTON, AL (WAFF) – A new person will lead Lawrence County’s Circuit Clerk’s office beginning February first.

Judge Mark Craig appointed Deputy Clerk Sandra Ligon as the acting Circuit Clerk.

She will serve the remainder of Harce Hill’s term until the post comes up for election in November 2012.

Winter storm watch

The National Weather Service in Huntsville issued a winter storm watch for north Alabama.

Light to moderate snow is possible Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. A surface low pressure system will track across the gulf coast and into the Southeast from Tuesday into Wednesday.

Man accused of running illegal gambling operation

Lawrence County authorities arrested 44-year-old Kerry Ray Bullard of Hartselle.

He's charged with promoting gambling, possession of gambling devices, and illegal possession of prohibited liquor.

Drug task force agents executed a search warrant at Bullard's business on County Road 87 in the Kitchens Mill community.

Alabama's December unemployment rate

Alabama Department of Industrial Relations Director Tom Surtees announced today that Alabama's December 2010 unemployment rate is 9.1%, a slight increase from November's rate of 9.0%. The rate is significantly lower than the year-ago rate of 10.9%.
