A Caddo man has been arrested after a methamphetamine investigation in Lawrence County. Sheriff Gene Mitchell says they arrested Corey Kristopher Barnes for possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, endangering the welfare of a child and possession of drug paraphernalia after going to his home off County Road 369.

Unemployment numbers have been released in the state and Lawrence County is 12.9% for January 2011. 2,005 people are unemployed in the county.

Unemployment was 13.6% in January 2010.

The state's unemployment is 9.3%, it was 10.3% in January 2010.

Man charged with theft and burglary

On Wednesday, March 9th Lawrence County Sheriff's investigators arrested Daniel Robert Moses for 3rd degree burglary and 2nd degree theft of property according to Sheriff Gene Mitchell. The arrest is in connection with a break-in that occurred on February 11th on County Road 170 about 4 miles outside Moulton.

Classroom envirnment may affect kids' mental health

First-grade classrooms with poor environments -- not enough resources, teachers who feel disrespected by colleagues -- have been linked to a higher number of mental health problems in students, according to a new study.

The study doesn't prove that classrooms that face more challenges directly cause mental health problems in kids. However, "being in a classroom with a lack of resources might adversely impact children's mental health because children are frustrated or disheartened by their surroundings," said study lead author Melissa A. Milkie, a sociology professor at the University of Maryland.

Your brain's ability to learn may get recharged during the light, dreamless slumber that accounts for up to half of your night's sleep, according to a new study.

Researchers at the University of California, Berkeley conducted tests on 44 healthy young adults and found strong evidence that bursts of brain waves called sleep spindles may network between important regions of the brain to clear a path to learning.
